YouTube Chapters Not Working – Possible Causes

If you have followed the mentioned steps carefully and yet the chapters do not appear on your video, Note that:

  • Your first timestamp should start at 00:00
  • YouTube advises that a video should have at least three chapters
  • YouTube suggests that each chapter should be at least 10 seconds.
  • The timestamps should be listed in chronological order.

If your video does not meet these four criteria, YouTube Chapters do not work. There are also other possible reasons Why YouTube Chapters do not work:

  • Your content violates
    active copyright.
  • Your subscribers are less than 1000
  • Your content is inappropriate for some users

PRO tips in Adding Chapters

It is recommended that you try adding chapters to an existing video for a test & check the results. Ask these questions: Has it gained more views? What is the average view duration? You can benefit better from videos by tracking these metrics first and adding chapters to them later. Additionally, it would help if you analyzed whether adding chapters increases or decreases the watch time and views.

Use keywords to label your chapters: Using good keyword strategies can also help you get more traction. Find out what people search for when looking for content like yours? You can rank higher with videos with names based on keywords with a high search volume.

How to Disable YouTube Chapters

You can either remove the timestamp & the chapter titles from the description or make the first timestamp not follow the rules mentioned before. Such as using a dot (.) instead of (:) between the minute and the second. (00:00 – Introduction –> change to 00.00 – Introduction)

Or you can change the first timestamp to 00:01 instead of 00:00
